cafe table

Above is a coffee table I just finished up this past weekend.  Its made from 2 layers of MDF board, a few PVC pipes, some large diameter dowels and a lot of Plaster.  The surface finish is normal white spray paint with a water based polycrylic top coat.  I am getting some bubbling in the top coat but I think its due to the rough paint brush I was using.  Its not a motorcycle but it does hold a few beers.

  1. Dude! I thought you bought that somewhere, that looks really good! Nice work my friend. It might be interesting to build an extra set of legs so that if you find the height not to your liking you could extend them. That only works though if they aren't permanently attached and if they weren't too hard to make.

    1. Thanks man. Unfortunately, the way I've constructed this one, those legs are permanently attached. I've been putting some thought into other ways I could make the table and I really like the idea of adjustability. The table took 5 weeks to complete. There has got to be a more efficient way.

    1. Thanks man. I need to get better images of the bottom cause that's where most of the work was. I sculpted the plaster to create a smooth transition between the bottom of the MDF and the PVC. They look like all one piece.

  3. Wow really cool. Where did you find dowels that large? Are they solid? Did you round the feet?

    1. All the materials were from Home Depot. They are solid and I just rounded them down by hand on the circular sander. I saw a few easier ways online but I didn't have the right router bit. Each leg is slightly different but the table sits flat.
